MindTree Consulting Unveils Plans for its West Campus at Global Village

MindTree Consulting, an international IT consulting company, has its employee concentration today at MindTree Village in Banashankari, Bangalore. With current strength of approximately 1,100 people, MindTree has peaked its available capacity at MindTree Village. The guiding principle for choosing a new location has been to keep the place of work close to where people live. Thus, Banashankari was chosen because of affordable housing and a middle-class life support system consisting of food, healthcare, and recreation. About 80% of MindTree Minds (as MindTree employees are known) live within 10 kilometers of work. MindTree understands that work proximity has a significant positive impact on their personal lives.

Going forward, MindTree's expansion needs for 2004-05 involve enhancing its employee strength to 2,000. The study concluded that West and South of Bangalore, comprising of Vijaynagar Rajajinagar, Girinagar, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Malleswaram, West of Chord Road, Padmanabanagar, Kengeri, Banashankari, BHEL Layout, BEML Layout and affiliated areas are home to a large part of Bangalore City's IT population. These people today commute in peak traffic to places as far as ITPL or Electronic City, often involving a 3-hour two-way commute on a daily basis.

The search took MindTree to Global Village at Mysore Road, which will house the MindTree West Campus. A little ahead of Bangalore University on Mysore Road, the proposed 500,000 square feet facility is situated just about 12 kilometers from Vidhan Soudha. Located inside Global Village a 130 acre high-tech, high-touch development by the Tanglin Group, MindTree's West Campus itself will be a 12-acre facility that will be home to 5,000 additional employees.

Central to the choice of location is the decision to invite people living in a 10-kilometer radius to work with MindTree so that they do not commute for more than 30 minutes one way, even in the most difficult traffic. In the unique concept being tried out by MindTree, the central theme is "If you live in Rajajinagar, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Malleswaram, Vijaynagar, Girinagar or Banashankari, do not travel to ITPL or Electronic City to work. Work close to where you live."

In addition, MindTree feels that the 6-lane highway project between Bangalore and Mysore, for which work has started, will redefine habitat choices for young people working in the city. Choice of affordable residences for purchase or rent is already multiplying and young couples can plan for longer horizons when they move into MindTree's West Campus. Work on MindTree's latest project has commenced. Internationally renowned RSP Architects have been given a brief to create this unique concept based on MindTree's DNA of Imagination, Action and Joy. The first part will be completed by September 2004, though an existing temporary facility at the Global Village will be operational by May.
