A monthly stipend to be given to a budding artist of the Society for three years
MindTree Limited, a global IT and R&D Services Company, launched a unique initiative called 'MindTree Artist in Residence' at the Spastics Society of Karnataka today. This program further strengthens its longstanding relationship with the Society, a member of which was instrumental in the creation of its visual identity eight years ago.
'MindTree Artist in Residence' is essentially a scholarship program extended to promising artists of the Society. Under this, a stipend of Rs 3,000 would be provided to the chosen for a period of three years, in order to nurture the artist in them and assist in building expertise in their chosen fields.
Sheeba K, a spastic belonging to the Society, whose immense artistic potential has brought a fresh aesthetic appeal to MindTree's new website, has been chosen as the first MindTree Artist in Residence, with effect from April 1, 2008. A cheque of Rs 1.08 lakh was handed over to Rukmini Krishnaswamy, Director of the Society, marking the launch of the program.
Acknowledging the contribution, Rukmini Krishnaswamy said, "It has been a wonderful journey together. In fact, our relationship goes beyond corporate social responsibility, to the extent of being 'partners' to each other in our endeavors! We are ever grateful to MindTree for their relentless support and caring."
"At MindTree, we cherish the relationship we have built with the Spastics Society of Karnataka," said Krishnakumar Natarajan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), MindTree Ltd, on the occasion. "The MindTree Artist in Residence Program is our way of creating greater inclusiveness with the society and in line with our stated vision of working towards primary education for the differently-abled children. We hope that this small contribution will further encourage the artists to build expertise in their chosen fields," he added.
