People-focused innovation initiatives revolve around six platforms: communication, inclusion and empowerment, workplace, learning and development, and social sensitivity.

Communication
We believe in open communication with all of our stakeholders, based on inclusiveness and transparency. To that end, we provide innumerable opportunities and platforms for communication. Our leaders send out monthly updates called Snapshots to all employees, detailing the state of organization and industry trends. A regular open house dialog, All Minds Meet, encourages interaction with MindTree’s leadership. Every question - from strategic and tactical queries to those relating to operational issues - is treated seriously and addressed on the spot. Other innovative communication tools include the People Net intranet, which provides a platform for internal bonding, reference, and grievance redressal; and Petals, a portal for self-expression where MindTree employees can write on any subject under the sun.

Workplace
Innovation in the physical infrastructure we provide takes many forms. Our space is brought to life with colourful paintings by children from the Spastics Society of India, providing visual stimulus and a source of inspiration to our people. Innumerable writable surfaces allow for spontaneous ideation and creative expression. An open-door policy, evinced by open floor plans and community areas, encourages a culture of trust and openness within the organization.

Learning and development
MIndTree constantly finds interesting new ways to learn and grow. Osmosis, our annual technology festival, provides a platform for innovation collaboration and competition; communities and interest groups ensure ongoing skill updation and personal growth; and a unique “active transference” leadership development program nurtures tier 2 leadership, ensuring continuity.

Inclusion and empowerment
Our inclusion and empowerment policies allow us to maintain high employee retention and satisfaction levels. From Circle of Life, our newsletter designed for family members of MindTree employees, to Baby’s Day Out, a unique program that enables parents to bring their kids to work with them whenever required, our innovative people policies and initiatives break new ground. Flexible hours, sabbaticals, and continuing education policies empower employees to take charge of their lives and careers.

Social sensitivity
We at MindTree take a high-involvement, low-visibility approach to our social responsibilities. We make an active effort to integrate differently-abled people into the organization, treating them on par with other employees. Our leadership are members of Technologists for Social Action, a volunteer-based initiative that arranges regular trips to old age homes, orphanages, and a refugee home for kids of Sri Lankan refugees. We have also adopted a school in Dharmapuri, providing logistical, financial, and social support to its students and staff. To us, these initiatives are not marketing gimmicks; they are an integral part of our identity.

MindTree’s innovative people-oriented practices and culture have helped us to achieve high levels of employee satisfaction and talent retention. Each year, Fordham University, New York conducts a people perception survey for us. Consistently, more than 90 percent of our employees have rated high satisfaction in working at MindTree.

We are one of the youngest organizations to be assessed as PCMM (People Capability Maturity Model) level 5, and have consistently won several “Employer of Choice awards from Businessworld, Hewitt, and Computerworld.
Some of our novel people practices and processes include:
  • Arboretum, a program designed to assimilate lateral hires by assisting and tracking them through induction, training, temporary project assignments, and other assignments up until their first performance appraisal
  • Being the first Indian IT service company to implement ESOP for all employees
  • A Leadership, Culture and Competency Initiative dedicated to driving leadership and learning within the organization
